Stop “Trying” to Be Healthy — Start Training to Be Her

If you’ve ever said things like:

  • “I’m trying to eat better.”

  • “I’m trying to work out more.”

  • “I’m trying to be more consistent.”

First of all — we see you. And we’re proud of you for caring enough to try.

But here’s a little mindset shift we love to teach at StrongSelves that changes everything:

Stop trying. Start training.

It might sound like a small difference in wording, but the shift from trying to training completely changes how you approach your health, your habits, and even your identity.

Let’s talk about why.

Trying vs. Training (They Are Not the Same)

When we try something, we usually treat it like a test.

  • “I’ll try this workout class.”

  • “I’ll try meal prepping.”

  • “I’ll try drinking more water.”

Trying has an exit door built into it.If it doesn’t work immediately… we quietly move on.

But training is different.

Training assumes:

✨ it will take time

✨ mistakes will happen

✨ progress compounds slowly

✨ every rep counts

Think about learning a new skill like riding a bike, learning a sport, or starting a new job.

You don’t expect perfection on day one.

You practice.

You improve.

You keep showing up.

That’s training.

And when you approach your health like training instead of trying, something magical happens…

You stop feeling like you're failing.

Identity First, Results Second

At StrongSelves we believe the most powerful goals are identity-based, not result-based.

Instead of saying:

“I want to lose weight.”

You start asking:

“Who is the woman I want to become?”

Maybe she is:

  • a woman who moves her body regularly

  • a woman who fuels herself with balanced meals

  • a woman who manages stress in healthy ways

  • a woman who protects her energy and time

When you define the woman first, the actions become clear.

Then the mindset becomes:

“I am training to become her.”

Not overnight.

Not perfectly.

But intentionally.

Everything Counts (Even the Small Stuff)

One of the biggest mindset shifts we teach is this:

Every small action counts.

A short workout counts.

Drinking water counts.

Logging your food counts.

Taking a deep breath before reacting counts.

Even mistakes count — because they give you feedback.

Imagine if every healthy action you took was like adding a dollar to a savings account.

It might not feel like much in the moment.

But after months… or years…

It compounds into something powerful.

Your strength.

Your energy.

Your confidence.

Your habits.

All built one small deposit at a time.

The Secret to Consistency: Triggers

Most people believe consistency comes from willpower.

But neuroscience tells us something different.

Consistency comes from patterns.

Every habit follows a loop:

Trigger → Action → Reward

For example:

Trigger: you make coffee

Action: you drink a glass of water first

Reward: you feel energized and proud of yourself

Or:

Trigger: you change into pajamas

Action: you write three positive things from your day

Reward: you feel calmer and sleep better

These tiny patterns are how habits stick.

Instead of forcing yourself to create brand new routines, attach new habits to things you already do.

This is called habit stacking, and it’s one of the easiest ways to build lasting change.

Train Your Brain to See the Wins

Many women struggle with being their own worst critic.

At the end of the day we replay everything we did wrong.

But what if you flipped that?

Before bed, try this simple practice:

Write down three things you did well today.

They can be small:

  • I drank water before coffee

  • I went to class even though I was tired

  • I chose a balanced breakfast

  • I paused before reacting in a stressful moment

This trains your brain to start noticing progress instead of problems.

Over time, that shift builds something powerful:

confidence.

The Woman You're Becoming

When you stop trying and start training, something changes.

Bad days stop feeling like failure.

They become practice.

Because the truth is:

You are not trying to be healthy anymore.

You are training to become a woman who takes care of herself.

And that woman?

She doesn't need perfection.

She just needs consistency.

One step.

One habit.

One rep at a time.
