Stop Trying to Balance Everything: Choose Where Your Energy Goes

Women are really freaking good at carrying a lot.
Careers. Kids. Relationships. Meals. Workouts. Appointments. Finances. Friendships. The house. Our health. And approximately 47 other things nobody realizes we're keeping track of.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, we're told we need to find balance.
But maybe the problem isn't that you haven't figured out balance.
Maybe we've been thinking about balance all wrong.
Balance Doesn't Mean Giving Everything Equal Energy
Think about physically balancing on one leg.
Your body isn't perfectly still. Your ankle shifts. Your core responds. Your hips adjust. Tiny movements are constantly happening to create stability.
Life works the same way.
Balance doesn't mean giving every area of your life the same amount of attention every day.
Balance happens over time.
There may be a season when your health needs more of you. Another when your family does. Another when you're building your career. And another when your nervous system is begging you to slow down and rest.
At StrongSelves, we think about this as energy allocation.
You only have 100% of your energy to give.
So if your health needs more right now, something else may need less.
That's not failure.
That's intention.
You Are Allowed to Choose Yourself
This is where things get uncomfortable for a lot of women.
We say we want to prioritize ourselves…and then someone needs something.
Another project. Another favor. Another commitment. Another thing that somehow became our responsibility.
Suddenly, we're saying yes to everyone else while breaking another promise to ourselves.
But what if you decided where your energy was going before everyone else started asking for it?
If you already decided, This month, my health gets more of me, saying no to an extra commitment isn't selfish.
You're following your plan.
If you decided, This month, I need more joy, putting something FUN on your calendar isn't irresponsible.
It's intentional.
You don't have to give 100% to everything at the same time.
Stop Asking, “How Did My Day Go?”
Here's a small mindset shift that can completely change how you move through your life.
Instead of ending the day asking:
“How did my day go?”
Start your day asking:
“How do I want my day to go?”
Take it further.
How do I want this week to feel?
How do I want this month to feel?
What do I want to be able to say about this season when it's over?
One makes you the observer of your life.
The other reminds you that you're allowed to help create it.
Try Pre-Journaling Your Next Chapter
One practice we use at StrongSelves is pre-journaling.
Imagine it's the end of the month and you're looking back.
Give the month a title:
The Month I Came Back to Myself.
Freedom.
Resilience & Renewal.
The Month of ME.
Then write as if you've already lived it:
This month I focused on…
My three biggest priorities were…
I protected my energy by…
I became more consistent with…
This month felt like…
You're giving your brain a direction instead of simply waiting to see what life hands you.
And yes, life will still life.
Plans will change. You'll miss workouts. Travel will mess with your routine. Work will get crazy. Kids will need you.
That doesn't mean the plan failed.
Ask:
What did this teach me?
Then adjust.
That's growth.
Your Patterns Aren't Your Identity
And while you're doing this work, pay attention to the way you talk about yourself.
Instead of:
“I am an all-or-nothing person.”
Try:
“I have a pattern of going all-or-nothing.”
Instead of:
“I'm inconsistent.”
Try:
“I'm learning how to become more consistent.”
A pattern is something you've practiced.
And something you've practiced can be changed.
Your habits don't get permanent naming rights over who you are becoming.
Your StrongSelves Challenge
Before another month flies by, grab a journal and ask yourself:
What would I title this next chapter?
How do I want it to feel?
What three things deserve the most energy from me right now?
What am I intentionally allowing to receive less?
Then finish this sentence:
“When this month ended, I was proud of myself because…”
Write the ending before you've lived it.
Then start creating it.
Because becoming your StrongSelf isn't about doing everything perfectly.
It's about knowing what matters to you, trusting yourself enough to choose it, and remembering that you are allowed to be one of the priorities in your own life.
Strong is the new beautiful.

I really love the work you are doing ... inviting women to live from their vision. We have talked before about perhaps collaborating in some way because our work is so aligned. However, here I want to celebrate and congratulate you on being a change agent ... "The High Tide lifts all boats" ...Thank you for being that tide!!
