Finally reached my goal weight - what a letdown

I remember, long ago, sitting in a summer session of Girl Scouts with other little girls my age. Magazines of every kind were spread out on a long table, full of colorful photos. Two women - probably college-aged troop leaders on a mission to change the world - asked me if the women in fancy clothing made me feel bad about the way I looked.

I didn't get it then - what all women come to know sooner or later. I was just a little girl who liked pretty little dresses. Until I grew up and could read the hidden message in the photos:

I'm never skinny enough.

People had been pointing out my weight for as long as I could remember. When I was 9, my doctor gave me tips about eating less. In 5th grade, my dance teacher commented on how I barely fit into my costume. At 14, a boy told me he'd be into me if I wasn't so big.

I got the same message everywhere: To be worth something, I had to be skinny.

Well, it's been a decade or two since those days. And I've tried everything under the sun to be less beefy.

For a long time, I struggled with exercise and food—not because I wanted to be healthy, but because I wanted to be thin. I thought if I could just reach a certain size, I would finally feel confident, finally feel good enough.

Well, I reached that size, ladies. And y'know what I learned?

Confidence doesn't come from counting calories, cutting carbs, or spending hours on the treadmill just to fit into a smaller pair of jeans. You don't become good enough just because you look good in the mirror.

True confidence comes from strength - the kind of strength that comes from showing up for yourself, from taking care of your body because you love it, not because you want to change it.

It's not about being less. It’s about being more. More energized, more capable, more in tune with what your body can do rather than how it looks. It’s about waking up with energy, moving without pain, and knowing that your body is capable of amazing things.

You are capable of amazing things.

  • When you stop punishing yourself with workouts and start moving because it feels good...

  • When you stop obsessing over what you ate yesterday and start fueling your body with what it needs to thrive...

  • When you stop training your body for the summer and start training for life...

That's how you get to good enough.

Here at the studio, we're in the business of helping women grow. And growing into the person who believes she's good enough no matter what her body looks like is about so much more than just working out.

If you're ready to stop chasing 'skinny' and start building strength, confidence, and a body that moves pain-free, I invite you to join our 7-Day Challenge. It's designed to help you reconnect with your body, feel stronger, and move better - a commitment to your growth in health, fitness, and ultimately, to yourself.

We start on Sunday, April 6th.
